Assessment resources encompass information or training provided to faculty and staff to help them understand, develop, implement, communicate, and use evidence of student learning. Transparent assessment resources are:
• Presented in language that is understandable to the novice
• Prominently posted or linked to in multiple places across the website
• Downloadable or accessible in a timely fashion by multiple web browsers and Internet download speeds
• Updated regularly to reflect current activities and new resources
• Receptive to feedback or comments on additional resources, training, or potential professional development needs
Institutional Examples
Western Washington University
Western Washington University prominently posts its assessment page link right on its homepage. Interested parties can then access their 2006/2007 handbooks on Assessment of Student Learning for course improvement and program improvement. These handbooks are written in a clear manner that guides the reader through student learning outcomes assessment. Contact information for the Center of Instruction Innovation and the Office of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education can easily be found.
Joliet Junior College
Assessment resources on Joliet Junior College’s Committee of Student Learning website include tools for faculty, glossaries, questions and answers, models, books, newsletters, grants, and handbooks. In addition, there is an assessment fair where interested parties can learn more.
University of Texas at Austin
Assessment resources at the University of Texas at Austin include information on how to get started with assessment, write learning outcomes, and select methods of assessment. In addition, there is information provided on each step of the assessment process as outlined by Instructional Assessment Resources.
Hocking College
Hocking College’s Assessment Resource page includes information on assessment vocabulary, tools and methods, and rubrics. Of particular interest in the assessment tools and methods section is the triangulation of data wheel document which outlines direct internal, external and indirect evidence of student learning.
