For the month of April, IUPUI has been selected as NILOA's Featured Website in the categories of Communication and Creativity For its creativity involving assessment tools and communication through various sources, Western Washington University is March’s Featured Website.

Western Washington University’s Office of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education does an excellent job publicly reporting assessment activities on campus. Not only are assessment plans accessible for each department but Program and Course Assessment Handbooks are available to highlight tools and techniques for writing assessment plans for program and course improvement (these Handbooks are also highlighted on the Transparency Framework section of our NILOA website - click here). Home to both the Dialogue and Praxis publications, Western Washington University’s Assessment Office provides several resources for both internal and external audiences in the area of assessment. Oregon State University

The Office of Academic Programs, Assessment, and Accreditation (APAA) website provides a wealth of assessment information for those internal and external to Oregon State University. Learning outcomes have been developed for all academic and co-curricular departments in addition to seven learning goals established for graduates. A crosswalk of colleges and programs that are utilizing high-impact practices is provided as well as information by college and program on specific assessment activities underway. Oregon State is NILOA's February Featured Website in the category of Communication.

Truman State University, which has been involved in assessment since 1972, has done an excellent job in building a comprehensive general assessment process. A major undertaking showcasing its assessment results has been its Assessment Almanac, an annual, three-volume online publication.One of Truman State’s most well-developed assessment programs is the Truman Portfolio, also featured on the Assessment home page. Included on this page are a Frequently Asked Questions list for faculty, students and staff, a link to its current strategic plan, and a Glossary of Assessment Terms. For the month of January, Truman State University has been selected as NILOA’s featured website in the category of Communication.

Using NILOA's Transparency Framework as a means to organize assessment information, Concordia University Wisconsin's Evaluation & Assessment Office's website is well on its way to providing meaningful information on student learning. Easily accessible through its University's main web page, the purpose of its website is "to provide detailed information regarding why and how we gather evidence of our student learning throughout the University as a whole as well as from our core curriculum, programs, and majors." For its commitment to transparency, its creativity in presenting information, and its easy-to-navigate site, Concordia University-Wisconsin is December's Featured Website.

California State University-Fresno

California State University – Fresno’s Office of Institutional Effectiveness (OIE) web page provides a wealth of assessment information to multiple audiences across campus.  From its detailed Fact Book data to information about its assessment activities and their results, CSU - Fresno provides practical tools to assess student learning outcomes and the means for faculty, staff and administrators to use the results of assessment to improve learning. With its wealth of information publicly accessible to both internal and external audiences, California State University – Fresno is the featured website for the month of November.

Mesa Community College

Mesa Community College's Office of Research & Planning provides information for both internal and external audiences about its student outcomes assessment activities. Listed on its website are student learning outcomes broken down into three categories central to its mission: general education, developmental education, and career/technical education. Users of the website will not only find full annual assessment results reports since 2002 but also highlights of the full reports. Furthermore, minutes of the Student Outcomes Committee (SOC) are also public. Because of its commitment to improving its institution for both students and faculty through its communication of its activities, Mesa Community College is the featured website for the month of October.

Walden University’s Demonstrating Accountability, Transparency, and Assessment (DATA) website provides a centralized resource for multiple data points across the institution and within departments related to student learning. The website posts the stated learning outcomes for each program, information on student satisfaction, performance indicators, and student self-assessments of their learning. In addition, the website presents information, in a clear, user friendly format on direct and indirect evidence of student learning, other sources of evidence used in continuous improvement, and overviews of how learning outcomes reporting is integrated within the institution. Due to the variety of information presented on student learning and institutional data as well as the clear wording and explanation of learning outcomes processes, Walden University’s DATA website is September’s featured website.

Juniata College

For those interested in learning more about student learning, Juniata College has "Just the Facts" website that addresses “whatever your questions might be.” The "Just the Facts" website provides information on “what we know about our programs, the success, the challenges, the in-progress.” Not afraid to state that the institution still has room to grow, the website showcases areas where the institution is attempting to improve as well as already succeeding. "Just the Facts" synthesizes a variety of student learning information in easily digestible chunks that speak to a multiple of audiences. For their dedication to transparency and facilitation of this creative endeavor, Juniata College is the Featured Website for August.

Northern Arizona University

Unique to Northern Arizona University's Office of Academic Assessment is the creative Seal of Assessment awarded to academic units and programs that demonstrate significant progress in assessment of student learning and to promote promising practices. In addition to the seals, the website provides a plethora of resources including information on assessment events, resources on assessment, an assessment guide, assessment results, information on university assessment committee, and assessment plans and reports by college. Joliet Junior College

The Student Learning Committee’s website at Joliet Junior College contains an abundance of information on student learning outcomes assessment in an easy to find, centralized location. The plethora of easy to understand information on assessment, as well as the multiple media formats in which the information is presented makes Joliet Junior College NILOA’s featured website.

University of Hawai'i, Manoa

From information on how to plan for assessments to examples from other schools to original research projects to handouts, University of Hawai‘i, Manoa (UHM) Assessment Office website has it all. We highlight two activities, Assessment Shorts and annual assessment reports, from this site and encourage you to check out the rest. For its clear communication and creativity, University of Hawai‘i's Assessment Office is NILOA’s featured website. What is striking about this site is that it could serve as a resource not just for the UHM campus, but also anyone interested in assessment, for instance see the how-to section on performing a number of assessment activities and the FAQ section.

George Mason University

With a wealth of information, the Office of Institutional Assessment at George Mason University is this month’s NILOA’s featured website because of its clear navigation and communication strategies. For easy navigation, the site has two menus to guide users through the different pages as well as links within the text. Each section is titled so that the type of assessment information can be found. The information on student learning outcomes assessment is located all in one place. For clear communication, this website presents a graph for when surveys are scheduled, administered, and analyzed. University of Kentucky

University of Kentucky’s Office of Assessment disseminates data and assessment information to its institution’s internal audience, while staying transparent by posting it online for any online user to view, through its newsletter, Sizzle: What’s Hot in Assessment. Entering its third volume this month, Sizzle: What’s Hot in Assessment provides ideas for assessment, highlights how individuals and departments are using assessment data, and graphically displays quick assessment facts (on UK students, what the students are learning, and the effectiveness of the Office of Assessment), allowing information to be disseminated in a user-friendly format.

Capella University

Capella University has multiple locations and sources of information across its website for student learning outcomes assessment. Not only is there an entire section of the website devoted to results of learning outcomes, but Capella includes videos and graphs (as well as accessible transcripts of each) to help multiple audiences and users comprehend current student learning outcomes assessment activities and how it is integrated throughout the institution. For creativity, Capella has developed interactive tools to help multiple audiences understand what student learning outcomes assessment means and entails for the institution.

Tunxis Community College

Slippery Rock University

Slippery Rock University has recently unveiled their institutional accountability profile website. This web page is located directly on the home page and linked throughout the Slippery Rock website making navigation to this information easy for multiple visitors, regardless of where they start.  In addition, the colored tabs provide consumers with a wealth of integrated information and data about the institution. Each tab provides visitors with text, graphs, and tables showing student data over time in easy to understand and colorful formats from cost to national student survey results. Slippery Rock University is continuing to update their website and is currently developing a new Rock Solid Assessment webpage. The current accountability profile website is an example of an institution taking multiple types and forms of information and locating them all in a single place in clear and understandable language. For these reasons, Slippery Rock University’s Accountablity profile is this month’s Featured Website.

Brigham Young University

Brigham Young University clearly communicates student learning outcomes assessment information to students and professors through its Center for Teaching & Learning website, “Expected Learning Outcomes.” This site features a video that explains why students should be interested in student learning outcomes, tips for both students and faculty about the importance of student learning outcomes, and an easy to use feature that allows the user to find the expected learning outcomes for each major as well as the ways that these outcomes are measured and evaluated. This website provides a great example of how institutions can organize their assessment information to make it user-friendly to multiple audiences. For these reasons, Brigham Young University’s “Expected Learning Outcomes” webpage is a NILOA Featured Website.
